WHAT IS CBD?

Our bodies are designed to use cannabinoids to balance all of our biological systems.

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is the non-psychoactive cannabinoid famed for significantly reducing symptoms in patients suffering from seizure and spasm disorders such as epilepsy and multiple sclerosis. CBD is the cannabinoid most often recommended for children, elderly and other patients who must remain clear-headed in their activities because it is non-psychoactive, meaning it will not produce euphoria or the feeling of being “high.”

CBD reacts with cannabinoid receptors throughout the human body and works to relieve inflammation and pain while producing a calming effect in patients. For this reason, it is often used to treat anxiety and sleep disorders. It has also been shown to work with THC to reduce the size of tumors.

Endocannabinoids, those produced naturally by our bodies, are signaling molecules. They are technically called neurotransmittersHormones are a more familiar type of neurotransmitter.

A vast array of neurotransmitters are produced by the nervous system in response to various states of health and also environmental factors. They interact with receptors found on the surface of cells throughout our bodies. Their job is to instruct a cell to adjust its activities. This can include changing how cells react to other neurotransmitters.

What Is Full Spectrum CBD Oil?

Earlier we mentioned another class of compounds called terpenesRaw PCR hemp extract contains terpenes as well as other cannabinoid compounds similar to CBD. Because it retains the natural balance of cannabinoids and terpenes found in the original plant, we refer to these products as full spectrum CBD oils.

What Is Broad Spectrum CBD Oil?

Broad spectrum CBD oil is very similar to a full spectrum oil. Full spectrum CBD oil, as we mentioned, retains the original concentrations of cannabinoids and terpenes found in raw PCR hemp extract.

Broad spectrum CBD oil also contains these concentrations of beneficial cannabinoids and terpenes but has all trace amounts of THC extracted. This is ideal for those who want absolutely no THC in their CBD products.

What Is CBD Isolate?

CBD can also be isolated and purified. Pure CBD is known in the industry as CBD isolate. In their pure form and at room temperature, cannabinoids are solid crystals. Purified cannabinoids are colorless and odorlessCBD isolate can be consumed directly or used as an additive in other preparations such as edibles and beverages. Unfortunately, a CBD isolate is devoid of the beneficial terpenes and other cannabinoids found naturally in the plant.

The Potential Medical Benefits of CBD

CBD has been touted for a wide variety of health issues, but the strongest scientific evidence is for its effectiveness in treating some of the cruelest childhood epilepsy syndromes, such as Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), which typically don’t respond to antiseizure medications. In numerous studies, CBD was able to reduce the number of seizures, and, in some cases, stop them altogether. Epidiolex, which contains CBD, is the first cannabis-derived medicine approved by the FDA for these conditions.

Animal studies, and self-reports or research in humans, suggest CBD may also help with:

Anxiety Studies and clinical trials are exploring the common report that CBD can reduce anxiety.

Insomnia. Studies suggest that CBD may help with both falling asleep and staying asleep.

Chronic pain. Further human studies are needed to substantiate claims that CBD helps control pain. One animal study from the European Journal of Pain suggests CBD could help lower pain and inflammation due to arthritis when applied to skin. Other research identifies how CBD may inhibit inflammatory and neuropathic pain, which are difficult treat.

Addiction. CBD can help lower cravings for tobacco and heroin under certain conditions, according to some research in humans. Animal models of addiction suggest it may also help lessen cravings for alcohol, cannabis, opiates, and stimulants.
